RELEASE: RPT Chair Candidate Matt Mackowiak Releases Statement After SD Caucuses Choose Nominees

Dana Myers Is The Best Choice For RPT Chair

San Antonio, TX — Today only three of seven filed candidates for Republican Party of Texas chairman advanced to the next round of voting: Abraham George, Dana Myers, and Weston Martinez.

Travis County GOP chairman and candidate for Texas GOP chair Matt Mackowiak released the following statement after the 31 Texas Senate District Caucuses selected their nominees for State Chair:

“I have been concerned about the unacceptable level of preparedness for the most consequential presidential election in our lifetime exhibited by the Republican Party of Texas for some time. I have talked to more than 200 Texans since January, all of whom shared my concern and expressed a desire to help, if there was a credible chairman that they could trust. Among that group, I secured financial commitments of over $2.5M from 77 patriotic Texans who were willing to give within 30 days if I was elected. This included $375,000 for Victory (our coordinated campaign for GOTV), whose chair quit last week (for the first time ever) and who only raised $200,000 in new money in four months.

“We built an incredible campaign nearly overnight, raising over $40,000 in four days (more than any other candidate and each has been running AT LEAST two months), releasing the only detailed Election Integrity and Border Enforcement plans, earning more than 50 endorsements (including Texas Alliance for Life and four Texas Congressmen), and winning the votes of more than 1,000 delegates in less than a week.

“Some may wonder why I got in so late. After observing the field for four months and with the most consequential election of our lifetime on the horizon, I concluded that there was an urgent need for my candidacy based on my experience in leadership positions, ability to take on the left and win, raise critical fundraising dollars and organizational skill set. I attempted to create a team to stop Abraham George, who is wholly unacceptable as party chair, and to take on the challenges that face the Republican Party of Texas after the failed leadership of the previous chair. With these things in mind, it became clear to me that I needed to run for party chair.

“As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “It is never the wrong time to do the right thing.”

“I wish to congratulate the three candidates who advanced for running vigorous campaigns over many months.

“I want to thank RPT’s four paid staff for their hard work under impossible circumstances. I want to thank everyone involved in putting on this convention: The vendors, the service employees, the security personnel, the convention center employees, the hotels, and their staff personnel. San Antonio was a wonderfully welcoming host.

“Finally, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank my wife Amy for her love and support. Our marriage is the greatest gift in my life. We are hoping God will choose to bless us with our first child this year. Our trust is in Him. We would humbly ask for your prayers in this area.

“I want to thank our incredible campaign team, ably led by Shannon and Matt, with many working for free for an intense and stressful week because they believed in this mission. I want to thank our volunteers, our nominators, our supporters, and our encouragers. Your belief in me was inspiring and sustained me.

“I want to thank the delegates for their interest, their passion, their curiosity, their effort, and their desire to achieve conservative reforms, win Texas big for President Trump, and proudly declare our values. I completely share these goals.

“Now I will return to Austin as Travis County GOP chairman (in my 7th year) and co-founder of Save Austin Now (the largest grassroots organization in city history, built in just four years). We have much to do to fight the hard left from destroying our state and our country.

“It was the honor of my life to have this opportunity. I gave it my all. I have no regrets.

“I will finish with a Bible verse, 2 Timothy 4:7-8:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Thank you all for your support.
